DERMAL FILLERS
My ethos with fillers is to restore the volume and contours that skin naturally loses over time, giving results that look refreshed rather than "done." Using carefully selected hyaluronic acid formulations, I work with your unique facial structure to soften lines, replenish lost fullness in areas like the cheeks and lips, and gently re-balance proportions - all while keeping results subtle and true to your natural features.
At R.SKIN Aesthetics, my approach to dermal filler is rooted in subtlety and restraint. I focus on gently restoring what time has softened - never over-filling or over-volumising - so results always look natural, balanced and true to you. If you're after a dramatically fuller look, I'm honestly not the right fit, and I'd rather say so upfront than compromise on the soft, refined results I'm known for.

Dermal Fillers
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
01
What is it?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are gel-based treatments made from a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, where it helps retain moisture and support volume. When injected, the HA gel integrates beneath the skin to gently add structure and hydration to areas that have lost fullness, smoothing lines and softening contours from within. Because hyaluronic acid is biocompatible, results tend to look soft and natural, and the effects gradually and predictably fade over time as the body metabolises the gel - which also means treatments can be fine-tuned or adjusted at your next visit.
03
Who is it for?
Dermal fillers are for anyone who has noticed volume loss or softening contours and would like a natural, gentle refresh - whether that's due to the ageing process, genetics, or simply how their face has changed over time. They suit people who want to look like a well-rested version of themselves rather than a dramatically altered one, and who value subtlety over obvious change. At R.SKIN Aesthetics, treatment is always tailored after a thorough consultation, so fillers are recommended only where they'll genuinely enhance your natural features - not simply because you've asked for them.
02
How does it work?
Dermal fillers work by using hyaluronic acid molecules that have been cross-linked - chemically bonded together into a stable gel network - rather than the loose, quickly-absorbed HA naturally found in the skin. This cross-linking is what gives the filler its structure and longevity, allowing it to hold its shape once injected and gently support areas that have lost volume. The degree of cross-linking also determines how soft or firm the gel feels and how long it lasts, which is why different formulations are chosen for different areas - softer, lightly cross-linked gels for delicate spots like the lips, and denser, more highly cross-linked gels for deeper structural support.
04
When will I see results & how long does it last?
With hyaluronic acid fillers, you'll usually see the immediate effect straight after treatment, though some settling and any swelling typically resolve within a week to ten days, revealing the final, natural-looking result. As for longevity, most fillers last anywhere from six months to eighteen months depending on the area treated, the product used, and your individual metabolism - areas with more movement, like the lips, tend to soften sooner, while structural areas such as the cheeks can last longer. Because the results fade gradually rather than disappearing overnight, follow-up treatments can be timed to maintain a consistent, natural look.
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
To help your appointment go as smoothly as possible, it's best to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements - such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, and St John's Wort - for around a week beforehand where medically safe to do so, as these can increase the likelihood of bruising.
It's also sensible to steer clear of alcohol for 24–48 hours prior, stay well hydrated, and avoid any other facial treatments, dental work, or vaccinations in the days immediately before or after. If you have a history of cold sores and are having lip filler, let me know in advance.
THE TREATMENT ITSELF
A topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand to keep you comfortable, and the hyaluronic acid filler is then carefully injected using a fine needle or cannula, with small, precise amounts added gradually so results can be shaped as we go.
The whole process typically takes around 30–45 minutes, and you'll be able to see the initial results immediately, with any minor swelling settling over the following days.

Aftercare
After your treatment, it's best to avoid touching or applying makeup to the treated area for at least 12 hours, and to steer clear of strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas, and sun or heat exposure for 24-48 hours, as these can increase swelling or bruising.
Sleeping slightly elevated for the first night or two can also help minimise any puffiness. Mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising is normal and usually settles within a few days, and you can gently apply a cool compress if needed - but please avoid massaging or pressing on the area unless you've been specifically advised to do so.
If you have any concerns, or notice anything unusual such as significant pain or discolouration, do get in touch so we can check in and make sure your results settle beautifully.
